Allegations Against Arizona Special Education Staff Member
There are serious accusations against employees at Arizona’s special education schools regarding inappropriate relationships with students.
A 24-year-old treatment support staff member, Charlotte Huby, was arrested on September 3 in Peoria. The allegations surfaced following a school investigation.
According to the student’s father, the 17-year-old had spent almost every weekend with Huby since 2024, even living with her for a significant part of the summer in 2025.
The Peoria Police Department confirmed that Huby faced charges related to minor sexual conduct and exploitation. The investigation commenced on August 28, initiated by a school supervisor who uncovered inappropriate text exchanges between Huby and the student.
Details from court documents revealed that during counseling sessions, students mentioned a sexual relationship between Huby and the victim. In fact, the victim had a video documenting their encounters.
The boy reportedly told detectives that he and Huby formed a relationship just weeks after meeting in school in 2024, which led to regular sexual relations. The teen claimed that Huby had arranged overnight stays at a hotel, where some encounters were recorded.
Other students had alerted a guidance counselor about a video circulating in a social media chat, reportedly showing sexual activity between Huby and the student.
In light of the allegations, the school placed Huby on administrative leave promptly.
During a police interview on September 3, Huby confessed to having sexual relations with the student 10 to 15 times. Following this confession, she was arrested.
The victim’s father also expressed his concern, initially believing his son was involved with an 18-year-old high school senior referred to as “Angie.” It later turned out that “Angie” was actually Huby.
Huby’s father expressed surprise at his son’s relationship with someone in a position of authority at the school, stating he had been unaware of Huby’s age or job.
Huby was fired from the Austin Center, where she had worked for six years, on August 29, shortly after the allegations arose.
The Austin Center released a statement indicating that they promptly reported the allegations to law enforcement and terminated Huby’s employment as soon as the investigation began.
The Peoria Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing. Huby is scheduled for an arrest hearing on September 17.
