Schumer ‘forcefully’ told Biden he should drop his re-election bid: Report

Top Senate Democrats Chuck Schumer According to a report on ABC’s X, Trump reportedly told President Biden in a “frank one-on-one conversation” on Saturday that he would be “better off dropping out of the race.”

“Chuck Schumer had a candid, one-on-one conversation with Biden in Rehoboth on Saturday afternoon, in which Schumer forcefully argued that it would be best for Biden to withdraw from the race,” ABC News Washington bureau chief Jonathan Karl wrote. “Schumer’s office would not comment on the details of the conversation, saying only that ‘Leader Schumer conveyed the caucus’ views.'”

The Senate Majority Leader’s office released a similar response Wednesday, obtained by Fox News Digital, denying ABC’s report.

“ABC’s source is Senator Chuck Schumer? President Joe Biden “These reports are unfounded speculation,” a spokesman for Senator Schumer said. “Leader Schumer conveyed his caucus’ views directly to President Biden on Saturday.”

The news comes as New York Democrats are urging for the Democratic National Convention to be postponed amid concerns about Biden’s mental health that have put his 2024 presidential bid in doubt, according to multiple sources.

Schumer met with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and the two agreed to ask the Democratic National Committee to postpone the virtual roll call for Biden’s formal nomination, which was scheduled for this month, three sources told Fox News Digital.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the Democratic National Committee is delaying plans to nominate Biden until August after receiving significant backlash from party members over its original plan to nominate Biden later this month.

“After consultation with the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic National Convention, we have confirmed that virtual voting will not begin before August 1,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, co-chairman of the DNC Rules Committee, and veteran Democratic official Leah Daughtry wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News Digital.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)Schiff on Wednesday became the 20th Democrat to call on Biden to step down. “I believe it is time for Biden to pass the baton,” Schiff said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

His call came the day after he was reported to have told donors, “If he becomes the nominee, I think we’re going to lose.”

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed on Wednesday night that Biden had contracted COVID-19. The diagnosis came a day after Biden said he might drop out of the race for health reasons.

“If I had some kind of health issue and the doctor came in and said you have this issue, that issue, I would do that,” Biden told BET’s Ed Gordon, “But I made a significant mistake throughout the debate. When I first ran, as I’m sure you all remember, I said I was going to be a transition candidate. I thought I could get out of this and hand it over to somebody else. But I didn’t anticipate things becoming so, so, so divisive.”
