Chuck Schumer has reportedly told Joe Biden that he should not seek reelection.
According to ABC News Washington bureau chief Jonathan Karl, “Chuck Schumer had a candid, one-on-one conversation with Biden in Rehoboth Saturday afternoon, in which Schumer forcefully argued that it would be best for Biden to drop out of the race. Schumer’s office would not comment on the details of the conversation, saying only that ‘Leader Schumer conveyed the caucus’s views.'”
Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer reportedly told President Biden in a “frank one-on-one conversation” on Saturday that he would be “better off withdrawing from the race,” according to ABC News’ X report.
“Chuck Schumer had a candid, one-on-one conversation with Biden in Rehoboth on Saturday afternoon, in which Schumer forcefully argued that it would be best for Biden to withdraw from the race,” ABC News Washington bureau chief Jonathan Karl wrote. “Schumer’s office would not comment on the details of the conversation, saying only that ‘Leader Schumer conveyed the caucus’ views.'”
The Senate Majority Leader’s office released a similar response Wednesday, obtained by Fox News Digital, denying ABC’s report.
“Unless ABC’s source is Sen. Chuck Schumer or President Joe Biden, the report is pure speculation,” a spokesperson for Sen. Schumer said. “Sen. Schumer conveyed his caucus’ views directly to President Biden on Saturday.”
Twenty Democratic senators have called on Joe Biden to not seek reelection.
Twenty Democrats in Congress have called on Biden to end his campaign, with California Rep. Adam Schiff, a former Intelligence Committee chairman who is running for Senate, being the most high-profile lawmaker to call for him to stop campaigning on Wednesday.
Asked if he would respond to those calls, Schumer repeatedly told reporters, “I support Joe.”
White House press secretary Andrew Bates said Biden reiterated to Schumer and Jeffries that “I am the nominee of our party, I intend to win, and I look forward to working with you to pass a 100-day package to help working families.”
