Scotty Scheffler’s Human Moment at the Memorial Tournament
Scotty Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, had a moment of frustration on the course during the Memorial Tournament. After his tee shot on the 16th hole went into the water, he expressed his feelings to caddy Ted Scott, saying, “I absolutely flashed my 7-iron, and it went in the wrong wind direction and went into the water. I don’t think you realize how frustrating that is.”
It was a tough start for Scheffler; he finished the opening round with a score of 73, which left him at 1 over par for the day. At one point, he was looking decent at 2 under, but things took a turn with two bogeys and a double on the 16th.
Reflecting on his struggles, he remarked, “I was hitting a good shot, and it started falling out of the hazard. You can’t go wrong with the wind.”
His caddy, Ted Scott, has been with Scheffler since November 2021, after starting his career at the PGA level in 2000. Interestingly, during their initial discussions, Scheffler had reservations about Scott’s attitude. However, he committed to improving that aspect and the two have forged a successful partnership since then, winning 19 tour events together, including four majors and a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Scheffler has great respect for Scott, stating, “Ted embodies just about every quality you look for in a person. He’s humble, hardworking, honest, and fun to be around. It’s very special to have him on the bag.”
Despite his current struggles, Scheffler holds an impressive record with 32 consecutive top 25 finishes. As of now, he’s tied for 33rd place after his challenging performance on Thursday. It’s clear he’s feeling the pressure, caught on camera saying, “I don’t know what to do.”
