Bryson DeChambeau took things by storm on Saturday, shooting a 3-over 75 in the third round and falling off the leaderboard.
However, he made a miraculous birdie on the 18th hole to salvage his round. He holed out for birdie from 77 yards to go and was 3 under through 54 holes. DeChambeau is at 7 under par and is four strokes behind Scottie Scheffler, who is one stroke behind Collin Morikawa.
Scheffler also had a roller coaster ride, going from being in the lead with a three-stroke lead to being back in the lead in just a few minutes. He ended up shooting a 1-under 71 and will play in the final group with Morikawa on Sunday.
Meanwhile, DeChambeau played in the final group with Max Homa on Saturday. So Scheffler and Nikolai Hugaard teed off 10 minutes before them. So Scheffler had the honor of being interviewed before DeChambeau.
As a result, Scheffler, who was standing alongside CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis for the post-round discussion, watched as DeChambeau held his third shot on the 18th. his reaction was priceless.
This is the shot that generated Scheffler’s reaction.
DeChambeau will race alongside Xander Schauffele in the third-to-last group in Sunday’s final round at 2:15 p.m. ET. The 2020 U.S. Open champion still has a chance to win at Augusta National, but that remains unlikely.
Still, if DeChambeau pulls off a vicious rally and wins the green jacket, most of the golf world’s mouths will drop open in shock, just as Scheffler did late Saturday.
