Amidst a strong run of form that included Scheffler winning his second Masters green jacket in April, the two-time major champion and his wife Meredith welcomed their first child last week. “I don’t try to look that far ahead,” Scheffler told reporters on Tuesday. “If you listen to what’s going on around you, if that was two months ago, it probably would have been very different than it is now. It will look like that,” he said.
“I don’t think this was a conversation that people were having two months ago, and now all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh, he’s going to win this many tournaments, or he’s going to do this and do this. I’m like, ‘I’m going to do it.'” I don’t really worry about that, I try to do the best I can every week, and other than that, I don’t worry too much about it. And. “

Fatherhood seems to have caused Scheffler some remorse.

“I might win a lot of majors. I might only win two for the rest of my career. I don’t really care about that at this point,” he continued. “I want to be as prepared as possible for this week.”
“It was a good time at home to reflect a little bit on my career and where my life has gone. I married my high school sweetheart and I had always wanted to play professional golf. And now I’m here. I was sitting at home with my newborn baby in my arms and I was wearing a green jacket and it was a very special time. ”
Schaeffler last competed and won in RBC Heritage April 22nd.

He said Tuesday that during his three weeks away from competition, he was able to practice at home and even used friends to simulate a competitive environment.
“You can simulate tournament golf at home, especially on the green, where you can compete with your friends and gamble. I never want to lose to them, so I like to simulate a little bit Now you can compete at home. ”
The first round of the PGA Championship begins Thursday. Scheffler, teamed with Brian Herman and Windham Clark, will tee off at 2:13 p.m.
