SCOTUS Denies Michael Cohen’s Lawsuit Against Trump Over Claims Of Retaliation

The Supreme Court rejected former lawyer Michael Cohen's appeal to reopen the case against the 45-year-old.th President Donald Trump finally shut down Cohen's claims on Monday.

In 2020, Cohen claimed that his imprisonment was retaliation by the Trump administration for publishing a book critical of the former president. The lawsuit sought monetary damages from President Trump, former U.S. Attorney General William Barr, federal prison officials and the federal government.
“Michael Cohen has made every pathetic attempt to drag my client to court over and over again. As expected, the Supreme Court correctly denied Michael Cohen’s petition. Therefore, he must finally abandon his frivolous and hopeless claims,” Trump lawyer Alina Haba said in a statement posted on X.

Meanwhile, Cohen was serving a three-year sentence for multiple federal crimes related to Trump-related activities, including lying to Congress. However, although he was released under house arrest during the pandemic, he was sent back to prison after refusing to sign an agreement restricting his social media posts and contact with the press.
“The Constitution is the foundation of our democratic republic and what makes America a beacon to the world,” Cohen said of the July lawsuit. “For a president to weaponize the Justice Department…is how authoritarian states are created.”
The disgraced lawyer was arrested at the behest of President Trump and Justice Department officials in retaliation for writing his first tell-all book, “Unfaithfulness: A Memoir: The True Story of a Former Personality,” in July 2020.
