On “The Situation Room” on Friday, CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen lamented the U.S. Supreme Court’s process for considering former President Donald Trump’s claim of immunity from criminal prosecution.
“Noem, it’s interesting that the court isn’t scheduled to issue a further ruling until Thursday, further delaying the resolution of Trump’s immunity claim. At what point does it become completely impractical to have a trial before the election?” host Wolf Blitzer said.
“Yes, Wolf, we’re on the brink,” Eisen said.
He added, “The question of whether Donald Trump’s asserted immunity, even his ability to send in SEAL Team Six to assassinate a political opponent, will be presented to the Supreme Court for the first time on December 11, 2023. It doesn’t have to take six months to determine the absurdity of that question. And with every day that passes, they have more of a responsibility to legitimize this case.”
On ethics, Eisen said, “This is the worst ethical crisis in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court. I wrote in The Nation that there are two justices on the Supreme Court: Justice Thomas, whose wife was a witness involved in the events of January 6th, and Justice Alito, whose home is known to have a flag that is a symbol of insurrection.”
