Transport Secretary Sean Duffy asked Fox Business on Thursday why should you go to a Democratic-led state if you have no intention of “federal taxes” to “comply with federal laws.”
Democrats opposed President Donald Trump’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration. On “The Bottom Line,” Duffin’s co-host asked Duffy about his recent comments.
“Well, put a map and look at the blue state, Deigen. We’re talking billions of dollars. If you don’t work with ice, if you have a Dei policy that discriminates against certain classes of people in your state, even if you give your driver’s license illegally, we look at your customers, what do you know, do you know you? Infrastructure?” Duffy asked.
“Again, this encourages these states to encourage them to line up with the common sense American principles and policies that the president laid out. If so, they have no problems,” Duffy added. “But if they don’t follow, we’re not going to approve their grants and billions of dollars flows to their state.”

In a statement released Thursday, Duffy Reminds me “All recipients of federal transport funds” from the state, particularly “violations” of immigration and DEI, could “consequences” “contractions” that include transportation needs “may lead to enforcement actions.” (Related: Harris Faulkner visibly causes Dem guests after telling him to Trump, facing “law” over immigration)
Duffy was then asked about the further impact of exceeding funds.
“Again, there’s one option that we can say that we won’t send these dollars if we have these policies. That’s not what we’re doing,” Duffy said. “We say that all the money you requested, or you’re going to give you a really good grant project to the roads, bridges and trains in your community. You need to prove that your state is in fact consistent with federal law.”
This month, the 19-democrat-led state filed a lawsuit against Trump’s executive order demanding evidence of a citizenship vote, claiming that the president is attempting to “grab the election” in an unconstitutional way. On Thursday, US District Judge Colleen Coller Cotery stepped in to block certain provisions.
Duffy went on to say he believes that many states in question have to choose whether to care more about “fighting illegal immigrants and ice” than fixing “roads and bridges.”
“Our department is huge. We do the airport. We do the roads, bridges, trains, harbors, pipelines. That’s a huge space,” Duffy said. “So they’ll face a choice. Are they in line or are they hoping for cash for the project?”
“Again, I think the ideology they have in these liberal nations might give up their money. I don’t think that makes sense,” Duffy added. “I think their constituents are angry. But again, they have the choice to make politically. What do they want to do?”
