Mets officials were still working out plans for the starting rotation to begin the second half of the season on Wednesday, but decided Sean Manaea would take the mound on Friday night against the Marlins.
Manaea will start the first of a four-game series in Miami, and the left-hander will face the Yankees in the Subway Series finale five days later.
The Mets hope to start two left-handed pitchers against the Yankees, a tactic they employed in winning both games of the Subway Series at Citi Field last month.
That means either Jose Quintana or David Peterson will pitch at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.
Luis Severino expressed his disappointment at not being able to face his former team, the Yankees, in the last Subway Series and vowed to definitely start this time around.
While the right-hander hasn’t been completely ruled out as a possible candidate for the Subway Series, it seems far more likely that the Mets will use two left-handers.
There is also a possibility that Kodai Senga will be added to the starting rotation for next weekend’s Mets vs. Braves game.
The right-hander has one or two more rehab appearances in the minor leagues before making his season debut.
Senga threw some bullpen balls on Wednesday in preparation for his next rehabilitation appearance, but nothing has been officially announced yet.

Mets officials will likely have Senga throw 75 to 80 pitches in his next rehab start and then decide if he’s ready or if he needs to pitch more in the minor leagues.
The Mets acquired left-handed relief pitcher Alex Young off waivers from the Giants and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.
Tyler Jay was designated a designated player.
