Sean Marks makes the Nets' rebuilding schedule uncertain: 'You just never know'

Nets Fans Eager for Rebuild Updates

After enduring two challenging years, fans of the Nets are left wondering about the team’s future. Specifically, they’re curious if and when the franchise will make significant moves to speed up its rebuilding process.

General Manager Sean Marks provided a response that was, well, somewhat elusive.

“It really depends on what opportunities arise,” Marks explained. “We’ve positioned the Nets to act when the time is right. Does it align with our timeline? Will this specific trade benefit us now?”

“Adding talent is always a possibility, but the question is whether that talent complements our strategy and supports the growth of our young players. Those are discussions I’m eager to have with Jordi. The rest of the coaching team and, primarily, Joe [Tsai] — when do we want to enhance the team?”

This aligns with a report indicating that Brooklyn’s future decisions may hinge on whether its star players decide to stay or leave after the playoffs.

On another note, Michael Porter Jr. experienced a standout season overall but faced challenges in his last 14 games, shooting just 40.9 percent overall and a disappointing 25.6 percent from beyond the arc.

“After the All-Star break, realizing I wasn’t selected affected my focus and preparation,” Porter admitted. “Regardless of the team’s performance, that’s something I need to manage better.”

Fernandez also discussed the mental impact of a difficult season.

“You really only understand your emotions when you go through them,” Fernandez shared. “When I took this job, people warned me about how tough it could be. I thought I could handle it, but it’s very challenging when you crave victories.”

Noah Clowney had a career-best season, averaging 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds, demonstrating a talent for drawing fouls. Yet, progress in his defensive skills wasn’t as significant as some had hoped.

“We made strides this year, but perhaps not as much as we anticipated,” Clowney reflected. “I have improved in certain areas and gained experience, so I’ll embrace whatever comes next.”

“I’ve enhanced my ability to drive to the basket. My ball-handling can improve to reduce turnovers… defensively, I’ve been steady. Sometimes I excel, other times, not so much…”

Meanwhile, Josh Minott, who joined at the trade deadline, showed promise, though he dealt with an ankle sprain earlier in the season.

“I can’t wait to see him at full health,” Marks remarked. “He spent most of his time here playing through injury, so it’s crucial to address his ankle and ensure he has a strong summer for a promising young talent.”
