Sean Spicer States Kristi Noem Cannot Recover From Her Reaction To Border Patrol Shooting

Spicer Predicts Short Tenure for Noem Amid Controversy

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer stated on Tuesday that he believes Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem may not remain in her position for long, largely due to her response to the murder of Alex Preti.

Following the incident involving Border Patrol that led to Preti’s death on Saturday, Noem noted that he legally owned a firearm but characterized his approach towards a Border Patrol agent as an act of domestic terrorism. Spicer commented that Noem has “crossed the Rubicon” and suggested that this political mishap would be difficult for her to recover from.

“Once you cross from favorable to unfavorable news, it’s nearly impossible to go back. I can’t think of anyone who has made that journey successfully,” Spicer remarked. “This is a significant disaster for her, and she was already in a precarious position. There’s a considerable issue now within the MAGA movement, and let’s not forget, 145 members of Congress are considering impeachment.”

He continued, “If the consensus is that she’s problematic, then action needs to be taken while there’s still control over the Senate. She’s crossed a line, and I’m not sure how she can bounce back from it.”

President Donald Trump met with Noem for two hours in the Oval Office on Tuesday, during which reporters indicated she would not resign. Trump had dispatched Border Patrol Commissioner Tom Homan to Minnesota to address Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations and issues related to a fraud scandal involving the Somali community.

White House press secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Trump still has “tremendous confidence” in Noem going into Homan’s visit. In a post on X, Noem remarked that Homan’s presence was “good news for peace, security, and accountability in Minneapolis.”

During a press conference on Saturday, Noem described how Preti “violently resisted” officers attempting to disarm him, asserting that defensive shots were fired by officers fearing for their safety. Police confirmed that Preti had a gun permit and that the firearm was removed before agents shot him.

A number of Republican senators, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, have voiced their concerns, calling for a more sensitive approach in response to Preti’s death. Republican Senator Thom Tillis warned that hasty judgments could undermine both the nation and President Trump’s legacy.

Democratic Representative Robin Kelly from Illinois has introduced a resolution for Noem’s impeachment, gathering support from 120 co-sponsors. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries suggested in a statement that Noem’s impeachment is probable.
