Sean Spicer suggests John Fetterman should resign and seek the assistance he requires.

On Monday, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer suggested that Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman should seek medical assistance following concerns raised about his mental health. An article published by New York Magazine on May 2 highlighted troubling behavior from Fetterman during a mental health crisis, including conspiratorial thinking and reckless driving. Spicer echoed sentiments from a Pennsylvania caller during a “Morning meeting” segment, expressing disapproval of Republicans defending Fetterman and labeling their criticism as hypocritical, especially after they previously addressed issues concerning former President Joe Biden.

Spicer said, “Do you think John Fetterman should get the help he needs? If he has mental or physical problems, I hope he gets the assistance he requires.” He pointed out the protective environment surrounding Fetterman that discourages criticism. “But this guy represents Pennsylvania,” he added, emphasizing that anyone unable to serve effectively should be reconsidered for their position.

He also referred to age-related concerns and mentioned, “Some of these guys who are trying to get around for voting are just ridiculous.” In response to Fetterman, Republican Senators Dave McCormick and Tom Cotton voiced support on social media, characterizing the scrutiny as politically motivated.

Fetterman has previously broken from his Democratic colleagues, being the only one in the caucus to support the confirmation of Attorney General Pam Bondy. He also co-sponsored legislation requiring federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants charged with specific offenses. Notably, Fetterman became the first sitting Democratic senator to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago after the last election and has expressed strong support for Israel following the escalation of conflict in the region since October 7, 2023.
