Shooting in Lafayette Injures Judge and His Wife
A shooting incident in Lafayette, Indiana, on Sunday afternoon left a judge and his spouse hurt, prompting a multi-agency investigation that involves local, state, and federal law enforcement.
As reported by the Lafayette Police Department, Judge Steven Meyer sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, while his wife, Kimberly Meyer, was hit in the lower back at their residence on Mill Pond Lane around 2:15 p.m.
Authorities recovered shell casings at the scene. Fortunately, both the judge and his wife received treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation continues, with multiple agencies participating, including the Lafayette Police Department, Indiana State Police, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, West Lafayette Police, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI.
Following the incident, Kimberly Meyer expressed gratitude towards the investigators and first responders, stating, “I have great confidence in the investigation by the Lafayette Police Department and would like to thank all agencies involved for their work. We are also very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; everyone has been so kind and caring.”
She also acknowledged the medical personnel who provided care post-incident.
According to a letter from Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush, Stephen Meyer serves as a judge on the Tippecanoe Superior Court.
Lafayette Mayor Tony Rozwalski addressed the violence, describing it as a “senseless and unacceptable act” and expressing commitment to ongoing law enforcement efforts. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Meyer family,” Rozwalski remarked. He assured the community that all available resources would be focused on finding those responsible for the attack.
