Contractors renovating a Seattle home made an explosive discovery this week when they discovered a grenade buried behind a bathtub they were removing.
Vadim Harkavyi, owner of Polar Bear Construction told KIRO 7 News He had just ripped out the bathtub in the third-floor bathroom of his home on Tuesday and found a grenade between the wall studs.
“My first thought was to get out of there,” he said.
The Seattle Police Department bomb squad responded to a home in the Ballard area and determined the bomb was not a live bomb.
“I rushed out of there, took a breather, and actually went back and recorded the situation,” he told the outlet about the shocking discovery.
“I zoomed in on my phone and took a closer look, and it looked like a real, goddamn grenade,” he added.

Contractor I posted a video His company's TikTok page shows a fist-sized green grenade placed inside a wall with a pin still attached.
“No way this is so real,” the caption read. The video then cuts to law enforcement officers wearing heavy vests entering the home.
Kakavi said he is used to finding things hidden in walls and floors, typically old trash, but this was a first.
“Nothing like this, this was big,” he told the outlet. “No one knew [it was there]”
The father and husband said they lost three hours of work as a result of the ordeal, but would have preferred to lose a limb or even their life.
“Whether it's a bomb or a grenade, it's an explosive,” Hakawi said. “I have kids and a wife at home, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.”
Investigators said the grenade may have belonged to a veteran brought back from the war.
