Seattle mother shot twice in bed next to sleeping child after gunmen spray apartment with bullets, police say

Masked gunmen rained bullets into an apartment building in Seattle early Wednesday, wounding a mother and narrowly missing a sleeping toddler, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. in the 9400 block of Southwest 27th Street in West Seattle, according to Seattle police.

Police said responding officers learned the mother and child were sleeping in the same bed when gunfire penetrated the bedroom wall.

Police said the bullet penetrated the wall of the mother’s bedroom and struck her twice in the leg.

The mother was shot twice in the leg, but the infant was unharmed.

Neighbors told FOX 13 they were sleeping when they heard dozens of gunshots.

Police have not released details about the suspect or the circumstances that led to the shooting.

“At the time I thought I was just dreaming so I waited for the sirens to go off and went back to sleep,” said a neighbour, who asked not to be named. “The area is very safe so it’s sad we don’t know what happened. I hope she’s OK.”

Investigators found dozens of shell casings at the scene and recovered several spent bullets.

Detectives were seen removing a bag of spent shell casings from the courtyard, according to a police report.

Details about the three suspects were not immediately released.

Police said they are investigating what led up to the shooting.
