Seattle police say a 17-year-old student was shot and killed while trying to stop a fight outside his high school.
Seattle Police Deputy Chief Eric Burden called Thursday’s incident outside Garfield High School an “extraordinary tragedy for our community.”
“Unfortunately, today we had another incident of gun violence at our high school,” Mayor Baden said, announcing that the suspect, who was wearing a red hoodie, light-colored pants and white shoes, fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
“It appears that an argument broke out between high school students,” Baden added. “The victim appeared to have intervened and attempted to stop the fight.”

“One of the original combatants then approached the victim and a further altercation ensued, during which the suspect pulled a weapon and fired multiple shots at the victim,” Baden said.
“The suspect fled the scene and remains at large,” he added. “We are working to identify the other individual, who is believed to be a high school student.”

Seattle Police said that despite all life-saving efforts, the 17-year-old student later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
He was reportedly shot multiple times.
Police said the school district decided to gradually release students following the shooting.

The shooting happened on Thursday, June 6th, while students were still on campus at Garfield High School.
