Woman Sues US Navy Blue Angels Over Cat’s Death
A woman has initiated legal action against the US Navy Blue Angels following an event in Seattle, Washington, claiming that her 14-year-old cat was terrified during its final day. Lauren Anne Lombardi filed a federal lawsuit on Monday after allegedly being blocked from commenting on the Blue Angels’ Instagram account.
According to reports, her cat suffered from congestive heart disease, and she feels the noise from the Blue Angels violated her rights. The group is known for its impressive aerial performances, but Lombardi argues that the harm it causes outweighs the benefits.
Living just a few miles from where the Blue Angels perform, Lombardi described the noise as “terrifying.” She first raised her concerns back in August 2023 but found her attempts to voice them stifled.
“The Blue Angels are undeniably cool. I get that. But—well, the damage they cause is significant. I think people should know and form their own opinions,” she remarked.
In the year 2024, her cat, named Leila, faced increased panic due to the noise, an event that reportedly led to her being euthanized after a fair. Lombardi, reflecting on that final day, mentioned how Leila spent her last moments hiding under furniture.
While Lombardi expresses her support for the military, she is hopeful for some restitution, such as her attorney’s fees, from the Blue Angels for what she perceives as negligence. In a recent conversation, she conveyed her determination, saying she wouldn’t back down easily in her fight against the government.
In the broader context, the Blue Angels’ participation in events has faced criticism, with local activists and residents urging a reevaluation of their impact. The Blue Angels themselves, formed in 1946, emphasize their role in showcasing naval aviation to the public.
According to information from various outlets, the Blue Angels consist of a team of 140 active-duty personnel, aiming to honor the significant history of naval aviation while demonstrating their capabilities to audiences at home and abroad.
