The undocumented Guatemalan immigrant accused of setting a woman on fire on a Brooklyn subway train has been identified as Sebastian Zapeta Khalil, 33, who sneaked back to the United States after being deported, federal immigration officials announced Monday.
Zapeta-Khalil is currently in New York City police custody while authorities await autopsy results on the victim, officials said.
An autopsy will determine what charges will be brought against the migrant, but the process will be complicated by the condition of the victim's body, which was badly charred in the incident, officials said. .
Marie Ferguson, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said the agency plans to hold Zapeta Khalil while she is detained in the Big Apple.
