Second man remains in critical condition after being pulled by water current in Malcolm-Jamal Warner drowning accident

A second man was recently pulled from the waters at Playa Grande Resort in Costa Rica, shortly after the tragic passing of Malcolm Jamal Warner, known for his role in The Cosby Show, while he was swimming at age 54.

The first responder at the scene was involved in an incident on Sunday where Warner was sadly confirmed deceased. Reports indicate that local paramedics received a call about a “water-related” event in Cahita, Limon, around 2:10 PM. Upon arrival, they found two adult males needing assistance.

Officials stated that “two individuals were pulled from the beach waters,” but did not offer further details.

One of the men, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, was taken to a local clinic in critical condition, according to officials.

The first responder attempted CPR on Warner, but, regretfully, he was declared dead on the spot.

Authorities confirmed that the situation was then turned over to police for formal investigation, as noted by the Costa Rica Red Cross.

On Monday, the Costa Rica national police informed that Warner was rescued from the water by locals and brought to the shore, where efforts to save him were made. His body was subsequently transported to the San Joaquin de Flores morgue for an autopsy, which determined his cause of death to be suffocation due to a “diving” incident.

Warner rose to fame as Theodore “Theo” Huxtable, the son of Bill Cosby’s character, from 1984 to 1992. He even received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1986.

In a conversation with the Post back in 2021, Warner reflected on the show’s legacy, addressing the challenges some might have watching it given the surrounding controversies at that time. He expressed a belief that the series inspired a generation to pursue higher education and start families, emphasizing its cultural significance.

Warner’s acting career continued long after The Cosby Show, with notable roles in series such as Malcolm & Eddie and The Resident up until 2023. He was also involved in various other projects, including voice work on The Magic School Bus and appearances in shows like American Horror Story and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.
