The United States Secret Service (USSS) has decided to lift its security protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following his suspension from the presidential election campaign.

Kennedy’s spokesman CBS News “Mr. Kennedy no longer owns the USSS,” he said Sunday.

Following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump (78) last month, President Joe Biden (81) instructed security authorities to provide protection for Kennedy (70).

Kennedy has publicly and privately called for Secret Service protection for months, citing a number of security concerns and suggesting the delays were politically motivated.

Kennedy announced on Friday that he was suspending, but not withdrawing, his candidacy and said he planned to remove his name from the ballot in about a dozen battleground states and support Trump.

The president, vice president, their immediate family, former presidents, foreign heads of state, children up to age 16 of former presidents, former first ladies, and prominent presidential candidates are typically protected by the Secret Service.

It is standard practice for the Secret Service to reduce or completely eliminate protection if a candidate withdraws.
