A bipartisan group of senators has introduced a bill to abolish the military draft. The bill, introduced Thursday by Sens. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), calls conscription an “outdated” government program that no longer serves any purpose. It would repeal the Military Selective Service Act, also known as conscription. First passed in 1917 to supplement military service during World War I, the law requires all Americans to serve in the military.
