Secret Service officials are set to deliver a bipartisan report to Congress about training and hiring issues surrounding an assault by an agent tasked with protecting Vice President Kamala Harris on her boss.

The briefing is scheduled for June 21 in response to a letter from House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).

“In response to the letter received from Chairman James Comer, the U.S. Secret Service will respond to the House Oversight Committee’s request for clarification on the topics outlined in the open letter dated May 30, 2024,” a Secret Service spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Comer wrote the letter to Kimberly Cheatle, President Biden’s appointee to director of the U.S. Secret Service.

“It was recently reported that a Secret Service agent assigned to protect Vice President Kamala Harris physically assaulted her superior (and commander) and other agents who attempted to subdue the Vice President while on duty at Joint Base Andrews,” Comer wrote to Cheatle.

The Secret Service confirmed, via other media reports, that the incident occurred around 9 a.m. on April 22 at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The agent, who was eventually taken away in handcuffs, was removed from guarding the vice president. The Secret Service described the incident as a “medical issue.”

“This incident has raised concerns within the agency about the agent’s hiring and selection process – specifically, concerns that past incidents in her employment history may have been overlooked in the hiring process because years of staffing shortages have caused the agency to lower its once-rigorous standards as part of its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts,” Comer’s letter to Cheatle continues.

Comer asked Cheatle to brief committee staff by June 13, meaning the Secret Service briefing is expected in the coming days.

Joint Base Andrews is where Air Force One and Air Force Two transport the president and vice president. Harris was still at the vice presidential residence at the Naval Observatory when the altercation happened, so the clash did not delay her travel.
