Security Guard Fired After TODAY Show Incident

A security guard has been dismissed for not preventing an intruder from accessing the TODAY show studio.

According to reports, the intruder, Andrew Truelove, managed to bypass two security guards, one of whom left their post and the other who seemed to overlook the situation. Surveillance footage allegedly captured the moment of this lapse.

On Thursday, it’s reported that Truelove broke into the TODAY studio in New York City, searching for host Al Roker. He confronted co-host Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur.

Authorities quickly apprehended Truelove, who now faces charges for committing two hate crimes related to the incident.

Melvin, back on set that Friday morning, appeared to be in good spirits, participating in the show for two hours before his co-host intervened. About half an hour after the show began, he addressed the previous day’s events.

He expressed, “I’d like to take a moment to talk about what happened yesterday. Unfortunately, you may have heard that an intruder entered an unauthorized area here in Studio 1A. Thankfully, he was quickly apprehended and arrested. We are cooperating fully with the NYPD’s investigation and are truly glad that everyone is safe.”

Meanwhile, Melvin felt relatively okay after the scare. Just prior to the break-in, co-host Savannah Guthrie had announced she would be taking a few weeks off to film a new game show based on “Wordle.” On that Friday, she was absent, and Melvin noted he was heading on a planned vacation soon.

Fox News Digital has reached out to NBC for further comments regarding the incident.
