Trump Claims Texas Vote Record
During a segment on CNBC, host Joe Carnell affirmed President Donald Trump’s claim that he received the most votes in Texas during the November 2024 presidential election.
Trump stated he garnered over 6.5 million votes in Texas, surpassing the previous record set in 2020, which had about 5.9 million. While speaking on “Scokebox,” Trump mentioned achieving the highest vote count in Texas’s history. Initially, Carnell questioned this, but rather quickly acknowledged that Trump was indeed correct.
“Texas has the opportunity to win five seats. There’s a great governor, and a strong presence there,” Trump noted. “And I won Texas. I’m sure you know, I received the best vote in Texas history. And we qualify for five more seats.”
Carnell mentioned he was unaware of the specifics at first but was encouraged by Trump to verify the information. Not long after, Carnell confirmed Trump’s statements, affirming, “So you got the most votes in Texas—that’s true.”
Trump was leveraging the Texas vote totals to support a congressional map being drafted by the Texas House Committee, which aims to establish five Republican districts by 2026.
On Thursday, CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten discussed the proposed redistricting in Texas. He suggested that this could help Republicans retain control of the House during the medium-term elections in 2026.
“You might think five seats are just five,” Enten explained. “However, they can significantly impact the majority in the House. In 2020, Democrats held four seats. In 2022, Republicans also had four. Five seats could change the entire scenario.”
