Take a look at how far they’ve come.
In a recent episode of the “Therapuss” podcast, Selena Gomez shared the story of how she and Taylor Swift became close friends. The episode revealed that the two were dating the Jonas brothers at the same time.
Gomez, now 33, recalled, “I went out with Nick [Jonas] while she dated Joe [Jonas]. We were young and just a bit clueless about it all.” She mentioned, “I was 15, and she was 18—what a crazy time we had, with her wearing those bracelets.”
They both agree that getting out of their relationships was pivotal for their friendship. Swift and Joe parted ways in 2008, the same year that Gomez and Nick ended their relationship as well.
Reflecting on their early bond, Gomez said, “At that age, we became best friends, sharing the experience of those breakups.” She added, “There were ups and downs, and now here we are, 16 years later.”
Gomez mentioned that it was rumored Swift wrote “Love Story” about her relationship with Joe. In fact, Gomez heard the song before its release and vividly remembers her reaction. “I was in my hotel room when I first heard it, and I thought, ‘This is one of the most beautiful songs ever,'” she shared.
Before performing it, Swift described the song to her friends, which impressed Gomez, who called Swift an “incredible… chameleon.” The conversation shifted back to their teenage years, with Gomez recalling a producer she thought was “good” but felt the timing was off.
As they reflected, Gomez expressed how they have navigated many challenges together over the years, and their friendship remains strong. “We’ve been through so much, but we’re still best friends after all this time,” she concluded.
Looking into the future, Gomez shared that she and Swift are eager to finalize their personal projects, particularly as they ponder their future together.
