Amidst a large crowd at Charlie Kirk’s funeral, there was a solitary protester—Smeyer Dowd—who identifies as a transgender anarchist and is associated with ANTIFA. He stood out, arriving early with a Palestinian flag adorned with the Black Lives Matter logo.

A small group of other demonstrators also showed up outside the event, brandishing signs that reflected their opposition to various issues, including President Trump. Their unusual collection of messages led to some labeling their gathering as a “devil society.”

At one point, Dowd expressed sentiments about land ownership, declaring, “Back in Europe, settlers, this is stolen native land,” as he addressed the protest crowd.

The gathering was not large enough to create a significant presence, yet they remained until the funeral concluded. Interestingly, their location was just across the street from Westboro Baptist Church, a group infamous for attending funerals to protest against homosexuality and Judaism, regardless of any actual ties to the deceased.

During the event, Dowd confronted a mourner who questioned the protesters’ hostility towards high-profile attendees.

Dowd later took to Instagram, referring to those outside Kirk’s memorial as some of the most disliked individuals around. He shared images from the protest and lamented the litter left behind by attendees as symbolic of what he termed “patriotic” excesses of “Gluttonous & Wasteful America.”

Known for his leftist views, Dowd identifies as a member of the Antifa movement. A designation recently branded it as a “major terrorist organization.” He had been arrested in 2024 during a protest at Arizona State University regarding Palestine and faced certain restrictions on campus afterward.
