Sen. Bernie Moreno: Based on His Extreme Jihadist Background, El-Sayed Is the Most Radical Socialist in the Midterms

Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed Criticized as Extreme by Senator Moreno

Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) recently stated that Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, a Democratic Senate candidate from Michigan, stands out as the most extreme candidate in the upcoming midterm elections due to his “sheer jihadist credentials.” This remark came during a discussion on radical candidates for the 2026 elections on a Breitbart News roundtable.

During the conversation, a participant, Barry M., posed the question about who might be the most extreme socialist running in the elections. Moreno responded, likening the situation to asking who the tallest midget is. He ultimately named El-Sayed as the standout candidate.

“This guy’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Moreno remarked. He commented on El-Sayed’s appearances on Fox News, where he felt El-Sayed deflects questions and avoids directly addressing significant issues. Moreno described El-Sayed as very dangerous, highlighting a particular instance where El-Sayed seemed to sidestep a question about the events of 9/11.

Moreno then drew a comparison between El-Sayed and fellow politician Zohran Mamdani, noting that both are effective communicators. He mentioned his background in the car business, reflecting that the most concerning individuals are often those who appear overly polished and slick.

El-Sayed is currently in a race against Republican candidate Mike Rogers. While he insists he’s “not a socialist,” his platform is supported by known socialist figures such as Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). Additionally, he has campaigned alongside Hasan Piker, a streamer with controversial statements regarding America and 9/11.

In August, a Senate counterterrorism expert expressed concerns about El-Sayed’s candidacy, citing potential homeland security issues tied to his family’s connections with groups associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and a Midwest voter-engagement organization linked to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
