Sen. Cruz heard on secret recordings criticizing Vance and expressing frustration about Trump, source reports

Sen. Ted Cruz’s Critique of J.D. Vance and Trump

Texas Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican born in Calgary, is anticipated to make a strong showing in future political endeavors. Recently, a report emerged suggesting that during a private meeting, he was recorded criticizing Vice President J.D. Vance, echoing earlier criticisms he had made about Tucker Carlson and President Donald Trump’s tariff decisions.

Interestingly, Cruz has been careful not to publicly link Vance with Carlson, perhaps out of a desire to maintain their friendship. But in private, he didn’t hold back. “JD is a disciple of Tucker and they are exactly the same,” he said according to the recordings.

The recording surfaced through an op-ed by an anonymous Republican source and allegedly captures Cruz during donor meetings from last year, where he described Vance as being manipulated by Carlson, who advocates for non-interventionism.

“Tucker created JD,” Cruz reportedly commented. “JD is Tucker’s disciple and they are the same person.”

Cruz’s relationship with Carlson has been fraught with tension over various issues. Notably, Carlson rebuked Cruz in 2022 for labeling the January 6 Capitol riot a “violent terrorist attack.”

More recently, in June, they had a heated exchange on Carlson’s show regarding U.S. military support for Israel against Iran, which exacerbated their disputes. Shortly after the intense interview, Cruz accused Carlson of engaging in “gotcha” journalism that undermined Trump and defended terrorists, calling for intervention in the region.

Since then, tensions have escalated. Cruz has seemingly become fixated on Carlson, with Carlson responding to Cruz’s insinuations of anti-Semitism in an ongoing feud. Cruz has even mentioned Vance’s collaboration with Carlson in ousting former National Security Adviser Mike Walz due to his aggressive stance against Iran.

Cruz alleged that Vance and Carlson conspired together to ensure Walz’s removal, particularly after Walz’s controversial invitation to an anti-Trump critic in a sensitive government chat.

Moreover, Cruz accused Vance of supporting a military official critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza, claiming Vance aided in securing him a role within the national intelligence community—a position that was ultimately denied.

Both Cruz and Carlson have denied any involvement in these developments, with Carlson asserting he had no part in the ouster of Walz or the other military-related positions.

In the backdrop of this ongoing drama, Cruz appears to be gearing up for a potential run in the 2028 presidential election, modeling his campaign after Trump’s approach. This includes reaching out to key pro-Israel donors and embracing a traditional Republican stance on trade and intervention.

However, current predictions suggest that J.D. Vance could easily dominate the 2028 Republican primaries, whereas Cruz is listed with only a 2% chance of clinching the nomination.

Cruz’s team has claimed that he remains a staunch ally of Trump, emphasizing his dedication to their shared political agenda amidst accusations of division.

In another facet of his political dealings, Cruz has reportedly expressed his candid views on Trump’s tariff policies, recounting a tense situation following the introduction of the Emancipation Day tariffs, where Trump was apparently in a foul mood during discussions.

Cruz warned Trump about potential electoral fallout related to the tariffs, suggesting that they could substantially harm Republicans in upcoming elections—his comments reportedly met with a blunt dismissal from the president.

Ultimately, while Cruz’s current approval ratings show some support, they underscore a complex web of political maneuvering and shifting allegiances within the Republican party.
