Sen. Darline Graham supports Trump in ending the filibuster: ‘This is where I have a different opinion from my brother’

Darline Graham Voices Support for Trump on Filibuster

Senator Darline Graham is aligning with President Donald Trump’s call to abolish the Senate filibuster in order to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, which seems to contrast with her late brother, Lindsey Graham’s, stance on this matter.

During a Republican Senate debate in Columbia, South Carolina, on Monday, Graham (R-S.C.) expressed her opposition to both the filibuster and the upcoming Congressional recess.

“I was one of the first to co-sponsor the SAVE America Act. Honestly, I’m willing to stick around during recess to push it through. What’s the deal with recess, anyway? Who gets a month off from their job? We should just keep working and finish this,” she stated. “I mean, you need an ID to borrow a library book or buy alcohol, but not to vote? That’s ridiculous.”

“This is where I part ways with my brother; I’m for getting rid of the filibuster to make this happen,” she continued. “Honestly, the Democrats will likely do it eventually anyway.”

“If the only thing stopping the SAVE America Act from passing is the filibuster, then I’m all in for ending it,” she mentioned on X.

Earlier this year, Lindsey Graham considered the possibility of eliminating the filibuster later on but cautioned against it in the immediate term.

“Changes to the filibuster, I think, change the Senate. It may occur someday, but it’s not something I think is wise right now,” he had stated at the time.

Several notable lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senator John Fetterman, and Senator John Cornyn, have voiced strong opposition to doing away with the filibuster, even though it could pave the way for the SAVE America Act’s approval.

Graham affirmed her complete support for the president, who has backed her since she began her Congressional journey, stepping in to serve her brother’s term.

Recently, Trump encouraged her through a Truth Social post to run for a full term in her brother’s Senate seat, a decision she made shortly after.

“We’ve known each other for a long time. She’s a remarkable person and a true American patriot. Lindsey was one of the finest people and senators I’ve ever known, and she shares his deep love for our country and South Carolina,” he wrote. “There’s no one better to carry on her brother’s legacy. Darline comes from an incredible family and has been a winner all her life. Should she choose to run, she has my complete and total endorsement for the Special Election in South Carolina.”
