A relatively unknown rapper from Minnesota, Tufawon, whose real name is Rafael Gonzalez Jr., recently made headlines after making a trip to France. There, he took part in protests at a high school in Saint-Denis, where he was seen chanting phrases like “f**k ICE” and “ICE out,” and also performed his song “No One Is Illegal.”
Upon returning to the U.S., Gonzalez shared a Facebook post where he called on white Americans to ignite similar protests here. He wrote:
“Having come back from France, it’s clear to me that we need to become much more radical in the States. We should be angrier. Our comfort is slowing down our progress. It is essential that white individuals step up and create chaos if we want to see real change. There are too many neoliberals who are just as dangerous as fascists. The French figured this out some time ago. It’s time to escalate. Go disrupt things, white people. It’s your moment.”
Beck responded critically to the notion that rioting yields real outcomes, saying, “We’re going to have a teacher come in to a classroom we just burned down.”
Gonzalez’s words reminded Glenn of a speech by Hitler from 1933 in which he asserted, “Don’t talk to me about victory. This isn’t victory. True victory only follows after war.”
“There’s an entire book written about that speech, illustrating how he was, let’s say, not completely stable. … Something like this,” he commented, alluding to Gonzalez.
Glenn also took issue with Gonzalez’s assertion that only “white people” should join the movement, joking, “Didn’t we establish that all white people are bad?”
Turning to Gonzalez’s statement about neoliberals, Glenn quipped, “I told you they would come for you. They will.”
“’The French figured this out a while ago,’” he repeated from Gonzalez’s message. “Yes, they did, when they pulled out the guillotines.”
Interestingly enough, in an interview with the New York Post, Gonzalez claimed that his trip to France was just for vacation and that his involvement in the protests was quite unplanned.
“What a funny coincidence,” Glenn remarked.
