President-elect Donald Trump invited Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) to his Mar-a-Lago, Florida, mansion, and the senator accepted the invitation, according to multiple reports.
“That's the plan. Yes, we're going to have discussions,” Fetterman said. CBS News.
“President Trump invited me to meet with him and I accepted,” he said in a statement, according to the report. “I am not only a Pennsylvania Democrat, but a senator from all of Pennsylvania. WGAL.
“Whatever happens, it's going to be part of the conversation.”
No date for the meeting has been disclosed, and transition officials insisted to CBS News that plans are still subject to change.
But if Mr. Fetterman were to go to Mar-a-Lago, he would be the first sitting Democratic U.S. senator to do so. Fetterman alluded to the anomaly in a statement, saying, “I have made it clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I am willing to meet and speak with anyone who serves the good of Pennsylvania and the nation.” said.
Mr. Fetterman has broken ranks within the party many times, particularly with his unwavering support for Israel. And just this week, he announced his support for the Laken-Reilly Act, which some 160 Democratic colleagues in the House voted against.
He also appears to somehow endorse President Trump's determination to acquire Greenland. “For example, there is a lot of talk about Greenland. And I know a lot, there are a lot of weirdos. And of course I would never support taking it by force, but I think that's a responsible conversation, if they're willing to acquire it,” he said, according to NJ.com.
Mr. Fetterman has shown a willingness to reach across the aisle, with a prominent Trump ally saying on Tuesday: Elon Musk Called him “grounded and true.”
Perhaps one reason for the invitation to Mar-a-Lago was to give President Trump an opportunity to persuade Fetterman to support some of his Cabinet nominees, particularly Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth. CBS News suggested.
Asked what he plans to discuss in past and future meetings with the president, Fetterman said, “I have no idea what exactly will come out. I mean, whatever comes out, that's part of it. ” he said vaguely. The content of the conversation. ”
