Democratic Sen. John Fetterman said Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz's nomination for attorney general was a “god-level” act of vandalism by President-elect Donald Trump to “possession forever of freedom.” .
President Trump, 78, on Wednesday selected Gaetz (R-Fla.) to head the U.S. Department of Justice, surprising members of his own party.
Asked about the eyebrow-raising pick, Mr. Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) quipped that it was a chess game by the former president.
“So, I would describe this as a god-level act of vandalism. This created a complete China syndrome of owning the library in perpetuity,” Fetterman told an NBC reporter. In the clip that became a hot topic on X.

Fetterman went on to say that Democrats' opinion on Gaetz's nomination is “not really interesting.”

Gaetz's resignation ends the investigation that began in April 2021.
