Sen. John Fetterman Rear Ends Driver On Highway, He And His Wife Taken To Hospital

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman was in a car accident over the weekend, rear-ending another driver and being “overly cautious,” sending him to the hospital, according to a person familiar with the matter. New York Post.

The senator was with his wife, Gisele, at the time of Sunday’s accident, and both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of “minor injuries.”

“On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were in a traffic accident with another driver. As a precaution, they were checked out at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder and released from the hospital that afternoon. They are both doing well and are happy to be back in Braddock,” Fetterman’s spokesperson said in a statement.

Maryland State Police released further details about the accident, saying the crash “occurred shortly before 8 a.m.” when the car Fetterman was driving rear-ended another vehicle.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Traverse and a Chevrolet Impala were both traveling westbound on Interstate 70 when, for an unknown reason, the Traverse struck the rear of the Impala. The driver of the Traverse has been identified as John Fetterman, 54, of Pennsylvania,” Maryland State Police said in a statement. New York Post.

Police said the passengers in the other car and the Fettermans were taken by ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia.

“No tickets were issued. The accident investigation remains ongoing,” he added.

In May 2022, the 54-year-old senator suffered a stroke while on the campaign trail. Since then, Fetterman has had difficulty speaking fluently and processing speech, and sometimes uses a device during congressional hearings and everyday conversations that transcribes spoken words in real time.
