Sen. John Fetterman, wife Gisele, involved in car crash in Maryland Sunday morning

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, were involved in a crash in Maryland early Sunday morning, Fetterman’s office and Maryland State Police announced.

Police told Fox News Digital that shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday, troopers with the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Division responded to the scene after receiving a report of a two-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 68 near Interstate 70 between Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

According to police’s preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Traverse and a Chevrolet Impala were both traveling west on Interstate 70 when, for an unknown reason, the Traverse collided with the rear of the Impala.

Police identified the driver of the Traverse as Sen. Fetterman, 54, of Pennsylvania.

Both the passenger in Fetterman’s car and the driver of the Impala were taken by ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for examination.

Senator Fetterman’s office released a statement to Fox News Digital confirming the accident and providing an update on the condition of the senator and his wife.

“On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a traffic accident with another driver. As a precaution, they were examined at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder and released from the hospital that afternoon. They are both in good spirits and are happy to be back in Braddock,” a spokesperson for Fetterman’s office said.

Police said no tickets were issued and the crash remains under investigation.
