We often talk about history repeating itself, but rarely have we seen it so clearly. In the 1970s, the American economy was in disaster mode, suffering from historic levels of inflation and stagnant growth.

Our flawed foreign policy led to the Iranian revolution and the abduction of 66 American citizens in Tehran, but it only increased domestic costs, costs that were already rising during the long energy crisis. The price was soaring through the roof.

Since January 2021, during former President Biden's turbulent time in the White House, Americans have suffered from a situation very similar to the late 1970s. Inflation will reach its highest level in 40 years in 2022, with prices for everyday goods and services such as margarine (up 56.8%), car insurance (up 47.3%), and eggs (up 40.1%) significantly higher than they were then. did. 2020.

The past four years have embarrassed the United States on the international stage, with Afghanistan's tragic fall, Russia invading Ukraine, Iran sponsoring a major terrorist attack that killed American citizens, and Communist China threatening territorial expansion. It has been declining.

Donald Trump is our president and the Democrats have no idea what to do

As in 1980, the American people voted in November for the Republican Party to leverage the outdated principles of a policy of peace through strength to restore reliable American deterrence in the face of regimes that harm us. members were selected.

Even before he took office, President Trump has promoted a thriving economy, a vigorous national defense, and, importantly, a long list of ways to solve the problems the government has created over the past four years. He has demonstrated that he is willing to unleash his power. .

The Biden administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) appears to be confusing protecting the environment with punishing productivity. The current EPA proposed regulations are neither constitutional nor consistent. They violate U.S. Supreme Court rulings and will spell disaster for energy producers and consumers, from families and small businesses to farmers and manufacturers.

Trump's (second) first 100 days give Democrats a chance

For example, consider a government agency's vehicle emissions standards. This is an effectively coercive plan to phase out gasoline-powered cars and replace them with electric ones. These punitive regulations set targets for the number of electric vehicle models produced as a proportion of the total light and medium-duty vehicles produced each year. As you might imagine, these standards are some of the strictest in American history.

By 2032, two-thirds of new cars will have to be electric. For reference, only 5.8% of new cars sold in the U.S. in 2022 will be electric vehicles. The Biden-Harris EPA is going to kill the gasoline auto industry.

EPA does more than just regulate. In November, the government issued rules imposing a “waste discharge fee” on oil and gas facilities that emit high methane emissions as part of the infamous Inflation Control Act (IRA). The “fee,” otherwise known as a tax, starts at $900 per ton of “wasted” emissions in 2024, increases to $1,200 in 2025, and $1,500 after 2026.

Companies can reduce or even eliminate fines by using methane reduction technologies, but doing so can sometimes end up costing them more than the tax itself.

Congress stands ready to work with President Trump to fulfill mandates from the American people

This tax problem goes beyond energy producers. That cost, as always, will be passed on to the consumer. This means that if this provision survives, energy will become more expensive for all Americans. That would be bad for Alabama, too. This tax applies to offshore and onshore oil and natural gas production, two resources that our state has been blessed with.

It doesn't have to be this way, and Republicans and President Trump are committed to fixing this problem.

I have high hopes that President Trump's nominee to the Environmental Protection Agency, former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin, will work to dismantle the agency's red tape of oppressive regulations and inflation taxes. And he's not alone in his efforts to reverse the Biden administration's illegal, unnecessary, and undeniably harmful policies.

Doug Burgum, former North Dakota governor, incoming Secretary of the Interior, and leader of the new National Energy Council, is committed to unleashing our nation's pioneering spirit and leading the nation, just as he did in his homeland. It will launch us into a new era of energy dominance. .

The nominees and appointees President Trump has chosen to strengthen the new administration's energy policy demonstrate his commitment to solving the problems that plague us. President Trump will lead us back to America's morning, and my colleagues and I are ready to work together to make that happen.
