Sen. Marsha Blackburn: Tennessee Should Demonstrate to America How to Resist Communist China

Tennessee’s Agricultural Heritage

Tennessee’s farming history is an essential part of the state’s identity, with farmers playing a crucial role in its economy. As I aim for the governor’s office, my commitment is to uphold the values and traditions that have fortified our agricultural community for generations. This includes facing off against foreign influences, particularly the Chinese Communist Party, to prevent them from purchasing our farmland.

On average, an American farmer feeds around 165 people. This productivity ensures that we have a safe, affordable food supply across the nation. Among American farmers, those in Tennessee stand out, producing some of the highest-quality food available. The dedication of Tennessee farmers not only puts food on our tables but also keeps our economy thriving. They are vital to America’s food security, a factor closely tied to our national safety. It’s clear that Chinese interests aim to disrupt this, and we must keep them from establishing any presence in our state.

Communist China sees our agricultural strength as a threat and is attempting to weaken our farming sector. Their efforts to acquire U.S. land are intensifying, and it’s imperative that we stop this trajectory. Our nation has made strides to limit foreign ownership of land based on national security concerns, but there’s more to do to close existing loopholes.

As governor, I pledge to tighten regulations on companies linked to China owning land in Tennessee. Enhanced monitoring is essential to ensure that firms tied to the Chinese Communist Party don’t gain access to our agricultural resources.

The loss of even a single acre to foreign adversaries poses a significant risk, endangering our food supply and national safety. Chinese acquisitions often target land near crucial infrastructures such as military bases or nuclear facilities, and their ambitions extend beyond economics. Their goal is to undermine our way of life and weaken societal structure.

Moreover, their ambitions aren’t limited to farmland alone. In fields like electric vehicles and battery production, we must prevent China from establishing roots here. There’s also a pressing need to counteract their influence through means like dissolving Confucius Classrooms and rethinking “sister city” partnerships.

Tennessee should position itself as a leader in conservative values, showcasing how to confront the challenges posed by Communist China. Throughout my public service, I’ve recognized China for what it truly is: a rival, not a partner. In the Senate, I collaborated with President Trump to push back against Chinese influence, working to keep it from impacting our lands and addressing its surveillance activities and intellectual property theft.

As President Trump returns power to state governance, I am ready to carry this fight forward as governor. My goal is to safeguard our farmland for those who cultivate it—our local farmers—ensuring that our foreign adversaries never take root in Tennessee.

We must collectively resist the encroachment of the Chinese Communist Party. Tennessee is a remarkable state within an extraordinary nation, and we should lead the way in this battle. I have consistently confronted tough challenges, standing firm against Chinese corporate interests that threaten our families and our agricultural integrity.

If Tennessee can guide the nation toward a conservative, America-first economic recovery, we will be prepared to confront and overcome any adversaries, including China.
