Rick Scott Calls Out Democrats Over Hasan Piker’s Remarks
In Washington, Senator Rick Scott from Florida criticized Democrats following controversial comments made by left-wing livestreamer Hasan Piker, who had made a shocking remark about wanting the senator dead.
During a live stream, Piker reportedly said, “If you cared about Medicare fraud and Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott.”
In response, Scott urged Yale University to withdraw funding for Piker’s speaking engagements. He expressed his concerns on “Fox News Sunday,” saying, “He wants me killed. He wants all capitalists killed.” Scott further stated, “He said we deserved 9/11. He’s obviously an anti-Semite. Democrats are campaigning with this guy.”
Scott added that Democrats are complicit in this situation, saying, “If Yale University wants to support people who want to murder capitalists, they shouldn’t expect federal funding. It’s a no-brainer.”
He acknowledged that universities can proceed as they wish but emphasized they should not expect support from taxpayers if they promote harmful rhetoric against figures like him. “My tax dollars from Florida should not be going to these places,” he asserted.
Scott’s background includes being a co-founder of Columbia Hospital Corporation, where, under his leadership, the company faced significant fines and convictions for Medicare fraud. He claimed ignorance of any misconduct during his tenure, though he accepted responsibility for what happened, calling it a “hard lesson.” He invoked his Fifth Amendment rights during depositions and was not charged criminally, ultimately receiving substantial severance and stock options upon his departure.
Piker has gained notoriety for his provocative comments. He previously stated that “America deserved 9/11” and attributed the recent Hamas attacks to Israel’s actions, suggesting that even under dire circumstances, “it doesn’t change the dynamics.”
He has also defended controversial groups and made inflammatory remarks about political figures. After making some of these claims, he later conceded that certain statements were wrong. As a figure in the progressive movement, Piker’s presence has sparked discussion and division among Democrats, with some concerned about the implications of associating with him.
Recently, Michigan State Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed campaigned alongside Piker, while Representative Ro Khanna expressed worry that such associations could harm future electoral prospects for the party.
