New Version of Trump’s Bill Announced by Senate Republicans
Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee have unveiled a revised version of President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.” According to reports, the updated plan would increase the child tax credit to $2,200, a decrease from the House’s proposed $2,500.
The committee has suggested deeper cuts to Medicaid spending by lowering provider taxes. Additionally, this version aims to ease the phased implementation of solar energy tax credits, which are part of the Inflation Reduction Act, allowing more projects to qualify for credits even before completion.
The proposed state and local tax (SALT) cap stands at $10,000, notably lower than the $40,000 limit set by the House.
As previously reported, the House narrowly passed Trump’s initial proposal with a vote of 215-214-1.
The extensive trillion-dollar tax credit package encompasses various components of Trump’s broad agenda, presented during the closing legislative session. It seeks to extend the tax cuts from 2017, eliminate certain tip taxes, and increase spending on defense and border security, while also aiming to make government healthcare programs more sustainable.
Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) stated in a press release that the bill would prevent tax increases exceeding $4 trillion. He emphasized that the legislation safeguards Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, allowing families and businesses to save and plan effectively for the future.
Crapo also commented on how the bill would offer additional tax relief to middle-class families facing the impact of inflation under the Biden administration, asserting that it would foster economic growth by permanently enhancing critical incentives and encouraging domestic investment.
Trump has previously expressed his desire for this legislation to reach his desk by July 4th.
