Tim Scott Discusses Faith and New Book

Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina has recently shared insights about his Christian faith and his new book, titled “One Nation Always Under God.” In a conversation, he emphasized the importance of prayer and faith in achieving significant milestones in both personal life and in America.

Scott, who has previously run for president, has always been vocal about his religious beliefs and aims to share God’s message with others. He mentioned, “Normal people can have extraordinary accomplishments when they pray and align their actions with their faith.” He pointed to figures like Norman Barlog and Dorothea Dix as examples of ordinary individuals who have had an extraordinary impact globally by following their calling.

The senator has been known to advocate for implementing his faith in his legislative work. Despite speculations about retiring from his position to pursue a pastoral role, he believes that his faith is best applied by serving Americans in Congress. He recently showcased a significant initiative as Chair of the Senate Banking Committee, underlining his desire for faith to shape American values around hard work.

“I want to see the Lord do something amazing across the country, especially for those who feel marginalized,” he stated. “The Bible teaches that the harder you work, the more you’re rewarded, which essentially means that diligent effort leads to positive outcomes.”

Scott acknowledged a troubling trend: surveys indicate a decline in religious affiliation among Americans. For instance, weekly church attendance dropped from 34% in 1992 to 16% in 2019, according to Gallup. Nonetheless, Pew Research suggests that around 62% of people still identify as Christians, although this figure has also been gradually declining.

He added, “One of the core principles of America is freedom — the right and responsibility to make the best choices for ourselves.” This sentiment reflects a broader ideological shift in American politics, with a rise in socialist beliefs he perceives as troubling. Scott believes that this shift erodes the moral fabric of society.

On addressing the challenges society faces, he remarked, “Promising something that’s not working is an ineffective way to create progress. We must simplify things to find solutions.” He strongly advocates for free markets and capitalism, asserting these systems have lifted more people out of poverty than any other method in history, while criticizing socialism for worsening poverty.

His book not only highlights these principles but also recounts the personal struggles he faced growing up in poverty, ultimately leading to his current position in the U.S. Senate.
