Senators sign letter calling for Mayorkas impeachment trial

The majority of the Senate Republican Conference joined in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer asking the House to hold a trial on the articles of impeachment submitted to the Department of Homeland Security. Alejandro Mayorkas dates back to February.

According to the report, a spokesperson for House Speaker Mike Johnson said: shown “The House will send articles of impeachment to the Senate next week.”

Forty-three Republican senators signed the letter, calling the country’s southern border a “national security disaster.”

“We write to demand that the Senate uphold its constitutional responsibility to properly adjudicate the House’s impeachment of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.” letter declares. “Since 1797, 21 people have been impeached by the House of Representatives. Trials were held in all but one case when a judge was impeached.” resigned before the trial begins. Unless Mayorkas immediately resigns, this impeachment should adhere to Senate precedent.

“In the face of a daily growing disaster on our southern border and in communities across America, the House of Representatives has formally accused Alejandro Mayorkas of contempt of office. The American people have a right to hear the evidence through a Senate trial. “Claim for impeachment,” the letter reads. “We therefore implore that the case be tried, as has been done in all similar cases since the establishment of the Senate for 235 years.”
