Sequence of Reiner murders: A look into the terrifying 24 hours from a party altercation to the son's dramatic arrest

The tragic events surrounding the murders of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, are coming to light following the arrest of their son, who is suspected of killing them at their Los Angeles home.

Rob, at 78 years old, is celebrated as a Hollywood director and actor, while his 70-year-old wife is recognized for her photography. They were discovered inside their residence with fatal injuries to their necks on a Sunday afternoon. This followed a heated argument at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien just a day prior.

While the timeline remains somewhat unclear, it appears that their son, Nick Reiner, 32, might have committed the act shortly after the family dispute.

Bitter Party Explosion

Reports indicate that tensions escalated during Nick’s confrontation with his parents at the holiday gathering. Attendees described a loud argument, which seemed to stem from Nick’s apparent drug use and previous issues relating to it. There are claims that he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

A close family friend remarked that Rob expressed concern about Nick’s mental state, feeling frightened during the party. Another guest noted Nick’s erratic behavior, emphasizing his strange fixation on celebrity. In fact, he notably glared at Bill Hader, a former SNL cast member, before storming out after a brief disagreement.

Some guests voiced worries about Nick’s demeanor, suggesting he looked unwell. Following the argument, both Rob and Michelle hurriedly left their home, though it remains uncertain when Nick departed from the party.

Bloody Hotel Room

Hours later, around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Nick checked into a hotel in Santa Monica using a credit card. Witnesses noted he did not appear to show any signs of distress or conflict while obtaining his room keys.

However, the hotel staff discovered significant amounts of blood in the shower and on the bed when they entered his room the next morning, and the windows were obscured with bed sheets.

Murder Scene

Dramatic Arrest

Police identified Nick as a suspect by 9:15 p.m. that same day. Video footage captured the moment he was detained near a subway station, about 25 miles from home. The Los Angeles Police Department shared a now-deleted image showing him restrained and on the ground.

Nick was then taken to a correctional facility and charged with murder. His arraignment was postponed due to his reported lack of medical clearance to leave the facility. He is currently being held without bail, awaiting proceedings that could take place as soon as Wednesday, according to his lawyer.
