Serial burglar picks wrong residence to rip off, pays painfully when gun-toting homeowner shows up

A St. Louis County homeowner shot and killed an intruder last week, and the suspect was arrested and hospitalized.

Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Empress Drive around 4 a.m. last Tuesday for a report of a theft. KDSK TV reported.This information was provided by the St. Louis County Police Department. Police said the suspect illegally entered the home and tried to steal property by throwing it out the window, but the homeowner shot and killed the suspect.

Local attorney Anders Walker told the station that the homeowner likely had a legal right to fire and that “all that was required inside the home was a reasonable fear of being hurt. ” he said.

Police told KDSK that the suspect then fled the home and ran past responding officers, who ordered him to stop and told him he was under arrest. A K-9 was used to search the area, and police arrested the suspect near Chambers Road and Monarch Drive, the department said. The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition, KDSK said, adding that he was still hospitalized later that day.

Who is the suspect?

The St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office charged 27-year-old Andre Faller III with first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree burglary and resisting arrest, the office reported, adding that the suspect is being held on $200,000 cash-only bail.

According to court documents, Farrar allegedly tried to enter a home in the 10200 block of Pannell Drive several hours before the robbery on Empress Drive, and police said Farrar had a prior conviction for robbery in St. Louis. added.

Lt. Craig Higginbotham of the St. Louis County Police Department told KDSK that a man and a woman who live in the home were inside the residence at the time of the reported robbery. The residents were taken to the police station to speak with officers, the police department added.

KDSK also reported that investigators went door-to-door in the area to see if neighbors had installed security cameras that may have recorded some of the incident.
