Seth Meyers mocks media attention on Biden's health concealment

Seth Meyers Dismisses Biden Health Scandal Claims

Seth Meyers, the host of NBC’s “Late Night,” humorously criticized the notion that former President Joe Biden’s health issues represent a significant political scandal, calling it “the worst cover-up in American history.” Discussions about Biden’s health have ramped up following the release of a new book titled “Original Sin” by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson.

Meyers took aim at the media’s focus on Biden, suggesting that it distracts from more pressing issues, such as the dismantling of American civil society by the Trump administration and Congress. He added, “But I don’t want to talk about it, and the media isn’t either. We should be focused on something more significant. Joe Biden has been aging for quite some time now.”

Following a montage highlighting media claims of a cover-up, Meyers joked that this scandal surpassed historic events like Watergate or the Teapot Dome scandal. He pointed out that Biden’s age is not a secret and noted that many Americans, including a good portion of Democrats, believe he is too old to run for re-election in 2024.

“You might be thinking, ‘Wait, did anyone not know Joe Biden is getting older?'” he asked, emphasizing the results of polls suggesting wide consensus that he’s too old to continue in the race. “And yet, it appears the Democrats are doing everything possible to support him,” he added, reflecting on Biden’s unpopularity in the wake of potential electoral challenges.

Meyers remarked, “Everyone saw him struggling on the steps of Air Force One in 2021. If this is a cover-up, well, it’s the worst-kept secret since Mika and Joe got married.” He concluded that the political decision for Biden to run again was misguided and that his advisors deserve criticism for ignoring reality.

Myers had previously hosted Biden on his show, but he has avoided discussing the president’s declining health extensively. Critics have voiced concerns over Biden being labeled simply as a “sympathetic, well-meaning older man.” In a February interview with Biden, Myers briefly touched upon the topic of age before quickly shifting to other subjects.

In response to a recent report by a special advisor regarding Biden’s memory issues, Meyers dismissed it as politically motivated, noting the advisor’s past connection to Trump. He stated that if the language used in the report was deemed appropriate, similar critiques could be directed at Trump.
