An explosion at an FBI training facility in Southern California on Wednesday injured 16 members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, authorities said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) SWAT team was conducting its annual joint exercise with the department’s bomb squad at the FBI-operated Jerry Crow Regional Tactical Training Facility in Irvine, said OCSD Sgt. Told. Frank Gonzalez told FOX News Digital.

He said the explosion occurred inside the building just before 1 p.m., injuring 16 SWAT members.

One of the members suffered a leg injury that required surgery, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Gonzalez said. Another person suffered injuries to his back and leg but did not require surgery, Gonzalez added.
Another 13 people were taken to local hospitals complaining of dizziness and ringing in their ears.
Most of the 13 people were treated and released, Gonzalez said. The circumstances leading up to the explosion were unknown. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
