Several LIV golfers are interested in returning to the PGA Tour, but it may be a complex process.

After reports emerged on Wednesday that the Insurgent Golf League would lose financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, several LIV golf players reached out to PGA Tour officials about the possibility of returning.

However, their path back may be complicated, as noted by a report from Golf Digest.

This development emerged amidst a surge of information following the announcement. According to the Wall Street Journal, LIV Golf was set to inform both staff and players on Thursday that support from the PIF would end.

Further reports indicated that LIV’s CEO, Scott O’Neill, had already begun informing some players about this situation on Wednesday evening.

The ongoing uncertainty about LIV Golf’s future seems to hinder its players’ chances of returning to the PGA Tour. Officials have stated that the Returning Member Program, which facilitated Brooks Koepka’s re-entry, would not be reinstated.

Moreover, it appears the PGA Tour intends to categorize players returning from LIV into different groups, such as former members and those who have never played on tour before.

Bryson DeChambeau, one of the sport’s prominent figures, faces additional challenges due to his involvement in an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour.

All eleven players named in the lawsuit are expected to navigate this scrutiny.

Sources informed Golf Digest that DeChambeau, currently in the last year of his LIV contract and previously more assertive about his commitment to the league beyond 2026, has reassessed his stance on LIV. He now feels it hasn’t realized his initial expectations.

LIV Golf made its debut in 2022, triggering significant upheaval in the golf community.

The PIF has reportedly invested nearly $6 billion in LIV Golf since it began, yet the anticipated commercial and television success in the United States has not materialized.
