Jonathan Taylor’s Future with the Colts in Question as Trade Interest Grows

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor could be donning a different jersey by the time the trade deadline rolls around, with several NFL teams reportedly interested in him.

According to ESPN, multiple franchises are considering a trade for Taylor. However, it’s unclear if the Colts, currently at 2-4 this season, will fully commit to being sellers in the market.

The 27-year-old Taylor is having a noteworthy season, having already accumulated 492 rushing yards and seven touchdowns over just six games.

Despite the trade chatter, Taylor himself claims he hasn’t really thought about a potential move. His focus is, quite understandably, on the Colts’ upcoming matchup against the Vikings. “I haven’t given any thought,” he shared with the media. “That’d be crazy right now, especially because we’ve got a great Minnesota Vikings team that we have to go against.”

He feels that contemplating the future could undermine his commitment to his teammates and the organization. “I think it would be a discredit and a disservice to my teammates and this whole organization to think about what could, what should, what may be,” he said.

Taylor was drafted by the Colts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and has made a name for himself as one of the top running backs in the league, having been selected to three Pro Bowls and earning an All-Pro designation in 2021.

He signed a lucrative two-year deal worth $44 million before the start of this season.

As the November 10 trade deadline approaches, speculation continues to swirl around which teams might be interested in Taylor.

This uncertainty follows the Colts’ recent firing of general manager Chris Ballard after a disappointing loss to the Titans, who were previously winless.

Ballard, who had been in charge since 2017, faced significant challenges following the retirement of franchise quarterback Andrew Luck in 2019. Under his management, the Colts reached the playoffs just once and finished two seasons with a winning record.

In a public statement, Colts co-owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon expressed gratitude for Ballard’s contributions to the organization: “I am grateful to Chris for his years of service to the Colts and for everything he poured into this organization. He cared deeply about our team and our community, and we wish Chris and his family all the best.”

Irsay-Gordon further emphasized the urgency for improvement within the team, stating that a leadership change was necessary to uphold the franchise’s championship ambitions. “Making this change during the season was a deliberate decision. Waiting would only delay the important work that needs to begin now,” he noted, assuring fans that a comprehensive search for the next general manager would take place.
