Texas School Bus Accident Injures Students
On Wednesday, a Texas school bus, carrying over 40 students, rolled over after veering off a rural road on the opening day of classes, resulting in several injuries, according to officials.
At least one individual has been reported with life-threatening injuries, while two others have injuries that are potentially life-threatening.
The bus was navigating a two-lane road when it unexpectedly went off the right side “for unknown reasons,” as stated by the public safety department. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Footage from the scene revealed a yellow school bus overturned with significant damage to its roof and several broken windows.
Emergency services indicated that 42 children were on board, and the driver was among the 12 individuals transported to the hospital. Officials have not specified whether the person facing life-threatening injuries is a student or the driver.
Most of the students involved were from elementary schools, noted Principal Bruce Gearing. This accident occurred right after school hours, and the children had not yet been dropped off.
The bus, a 2024 model, is equipped with state-mandated seat belts that students are required to wear.
“We want each of those students and their families to know that our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” Gearing added.
