Police in California say they are investigating a disturbing incident involving a severed pig's head as a possible hate crime.
Family members said they found the head Monday morning outside their home on Naponie Court in the Sacramento suburb of Natomas. The homeowner He told KCRA-TV About that incident.
“His head was facing the door, he had a nail in his nose and what appeared to be blood all over him.”
“It's a little intimidating, it's unsettling, it's a little scary,” said the man, who did not want to be identified.
He and his wife discovered the pig's head on their way to work.
“His head was facing the door, he had a nail in his nose and what looked like blood all over him,” he said.
They immediately called Sacramento Police. Surveillance footage obtained by KCRA shows a hooded figure placing the pig's head on their doorstep around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. The suspect was reportedly wearing a mask and a baseball cap. KTXL-TV Video.
The family has lived in the home for 20 years, and neighbors came by to comfort the family about the incident, according to KCRA.
“Why would someone take this time in the middle of the night to do something like this?” the homeowner asked. “For what purpose? What was the purpose? Sometimes these people can be explained rationally, but I want to understand why.”
Sacramento police said they received a hate crime report from the family and are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect.
