Sex trafficking convict dead after suspected Indiana prison fight

An inmate has died after a fight with another inmate at a federal prison in western Indiana, officials said.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said inmate Mario Waters, 35, was found unresponsive at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute around 12:20 a.m. Monday after “an apparent altercation” with another inmate.

Despite life-saving efforts, Waters was pronounced dead at Terre Haute Hospital on Monday.

Convicted sex trafficker Mario Waters has reportedly died in a brawl at an Indiana prison.

The Bureau of Prisons said the FBI was notified of Waters' death.

Waters was sentenced to life in prison for conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors in the Eastern District of Arkansas. He had been incarcerated at a maximum-security federal prison in Terre Haute since April 21, 2023, the Tribune Star reported.

Terre Haute is located approximately 110 miles west of Indianapolis.
